Royal Air Force veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness will benefit from a new grant of £15,000 to Alabaré Homes for Veterans from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund….

The funds will help to provide not only accommodation but a friendly and supportive environment for vulnerable ex-Service RAF personnel to access the support they need in order to once again live independently.

The support on offer will include working with dedicated staff to identify job opportunities, write CV’s, attend interviews and secure employment. It will also enable Veterans the chance to participate in vocational activities and volunteering opportunities within the local community.

Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans provide accommodation and support for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Their services include 23 Homes for Veterans across the South and South West of England and across Wales, which can collectively house 115 Veterans at any one time.

The first Home for Veterans opened in Plymouth in 2009 and today are the largest provider of supported housing for homeless Veterans of working age outside of London.

Andrew Lord, Alabaré Chief Executive said: “Thanks to the Fund’s financial support we have been able to provide much needed accommodation to ex-RAF personnel in need of support. We hope to continue working in partnership with them in to the future as we strive to improve the lives of Veterans.”

Peter Ashcroft, Welfare Projects Manager at the RAF Benevolent Fund, said: “The Fund works with a number of partners like Alabaré to reach veterans in need, in all areas of the community. This grant will ensure homeless RAF veterans get the support they need when they fall on hard times.

“This year, the Fund celebrates 100 years of supporting the RAF Family, and to mark the milestone we have committed to doubling the number of people we help. Partnerships with organisations like Alabaré allow us to provide support for all veterans, wherever they are in need.”
