The Winter Paralympic Games in PyeongChang have drawn to a close and Help for Heroes supported athletes Owen Pick and Scott Meenagh should be incredibly proud of what they achieved in representing their country once again…
Scott, making his Paralympics debut and representing GB in Para-Nordic skiing for the first time in 20 years, covered 58.6km across six events in the sitting classification of cross country and biathlon in Pyeongchang, with his best result 13th in the 12.5km biathlon.
His time of 25mins 17.5secs in the cross-country was three minutes behind the gold medal winner but Scott is determined to close that gap in the coming years.
“I’m going to endeavour over the next few years to make sure I am as close to the best guys as possible in every single race. I am seeing what it takes to be at the top of this sport and I am inspired for life now and I am not going anywhere until I have given an absolute account of myself and I am on that podium.”
Para-Snowboarder Owen Pick was another history maker and brought the curtain down on his maiden Winter Games with a top-ten finish in the banked slalom. Although he was disappointed not to reach the podium, the ParalympicsGB Flagbearer has inspired many on his journey.
Owen said: “I’ll definitely go again for sure. I’m glad we’ve shown Britain we can do this I’m just sad we couldn’t do better. I’ll get over it. I’m hard on myself but I set myself a challenge.
“You’re told you can’t do certain things because of your injury and I want to prove them wrong. I haven’t got a choice whether I continue. I can’t leave it. I’m one of those people who sets themselves a goal and I haven’t achieved that goal. I’ll be back.”
