BAE Systems is the UK Government’s nominated Prime Contractor (PC) under the Government-to-Government arrangements that are in place to provide equipment, support and training to Saudi Arabia. We provide maintenance of Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) aircraft and train RSAF personnel safely in a training environment in how to use their aircraft, equipment and weapons. For such maintenance and training, this role is responsible for performing Modification management and planning within the Fleet Management section of the Typhoon Support Centre (TSC) at Taif, KSA, in order to ensure that the RSAF Typhoon fleet and Line Replaceable Items (LRIs) that require or are identified for Modification or upgrade are, effectively managed and maintained in accordance with RSAF fleet plans and mandatory continuing airworthiness requirements.

Reporting to the Fleet Plans and Statement of Requirement (SoR) Team Leader, the Modification Planner will provide proactive support and coordinated management for the Modification and Upgrade of the Typhoon fleet and associated LRIs. Liaising with the Integrated Logistics Operations Centre (ILOC), to ensure that LRIs identified for Modification or Upgrade are managed to and from vendor and allocated to the correct aircraft on return to ensure that scheduled maintenance requirements, upgrades, capability insertions, maintenance programmes and operational requirements are planned and accomplished effectively.

To interface directly with the RSAF at all levels, helping their understanding of the Typhoon Modification and Upgrade management requirements and priorities, whilst assisting with the development of Saudi National expertise in the Typhoon fleet management, modification and upgrade requirements.


To provide proactive support and co-ordinated management of Modifications and Upgrades for the Typhoon fleet, which will be coordinated by the (ILOC). Ensure that upgrades, capability insertions, maintenance program changes and operational requirements are planned and accomplished effectively.

Generate and maintain tracking and status reports relevant to Modifications and Upgrades and provide inputs for any formal reports required by the RSAF.

Liaise with Fleet Management Advisory Service (FMAS) to agree carousel plans based on both the vendor capacity and RSAF capacity highlighting the risk and impact to the Typhoon fleet.

Review considerations for selecting an asset for commencement of a carousel program to be reviewed as part of the Operational Readiness Review (ORR) and approval by RSAF HQ / TyWSSM, including, but not limited to:

  • Vendor capacity.
  • RSAF capacity.
  • Vendor Turn-Round-Time.
  • Transportation time (to/from vendor).
  • Engineering/Embodiment times (SMU/Forward).
  • Total number of assets requiring upgrade.
  • Sequencing /Priority of assets by Pt/No.
  • Maintenance opportunities.

Liaise with RSAF Fleet Management Statement of Requirement (SoR) to ensure the inclusion of any required assets required for Modification/Upgrade carousels are included in the SoR and Statement of Work (SoW) prior to SMU maintenance input.

Work in conjunction with and assist the Asset Planner(s) to ensure that the most suitable LRIs are utilised for Modification and/or Upgrade.

Create and issue Ad Hoc tasking for assets to be released from SMU and Forward Maintenance to ensure carousel programs remain on track to be completed in the desired time frame.

Track assets that have been released for upgrade, and allocated returning assets post upgrade to aircraft, in conjunction with the ILOC.

Develop and maintain TSC Processes and Procedures relating to fleet LRI management and planning.

Generate and maintain status reports relevant to Typhoon fleet LRI management.

Undertake any additional, reasonable, tasks as may from time to time be requested by TSC and RSAF management.


  • Qualified to HNC, or equivalent, in an Aeronautical / Mechanical engineering discipline, with comprehensive experience in an aircraft support/maintenance management.
  • Knowledge of aircraft fleet and LRI Modification and Upgrade principles and practices, including the requirements for continuing airworthiness management.
  • A knowledge of the Typhoon fleet and LRI Modification and Upgrade management requirements of the Engineering Support System (ESS) and use of the Microsoft Office suit of programmes would be advantageous.



Ideally from within BAE Systems, or currently serving within the RAF, to ensure familiarity with Typhoon fleet management requirements and maintenance management systems.

Candidates from a non-Typhoon fleet management background with other relevant experience gained with another air force will be considered where-by additional training can be provided.
