A special event has explored the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on the families of members of the armed forces…
Discussing the condition in front of a packed audience at Napier University’s Craiglockhart campus, an expert panel with links to the armed forces discussed the effect of PTSD on the wider family and the strain it can place on relationships.
The guest panel included Jamie Sanderson, a former Royal Marine and co-founder of the Rock2Recovery charity, Midsomer Murders actress Kirsty Dillon who developed an interest in PTSD after her father was diagnosed with the condition following services in the Royal Navy and Edinburgh Napier academic Dr Mandy Winterton.
The panel was chaired by journalist Matthew Green, author of Aftershock, an influential analysis of life after combat.
The panel was also joined by veteran Kenny Watson who was persuaded to seek help for his as then undiagnosed PTSD after his wife Kerry attended a similar event at Edinburgh Napier last year. Kerry, who also spoke at the event about the impact of Kenny’s PTSD on their family, is a current Edinburgh Napier Psychology student.
