The Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV) is dedicated to the study of the causes, dynamics, characteristics and consequences of terrorism and related forms of political violence.

Founded in 1994, the Centre is Europe’s oldest for the study of terrorism and this year celebrates its 25th anniversary.

As we head into our 25th year, we highlight the courses CSTPV offers and the different levels attained.  These include:

  • The first transnational counter-terrorism online certificate course to provide individuals, military, police and veterans, as well as public and private sector organisations with an understanding of the latest thinking on terrorism and homeland security. This is currently awarded at Level 7 SCQF. Please see www.terrorismstudies.com
  • The MLitt in Terrorism and Political Violence offers students the opportunity to take research-led taught modules and also to develop a piece of systematic research in a dissertation focusing on a selected area of terrorism and political violence. The Masters offers students the opportunity to learn from acknowledged experts in the field and can be taken either residentially in 1 year on a FT basis or by distance learning over a period of 3-5 years.
  • The new Professional Doctorate (DProf) in International Relations which is undertaken on a part-time basis. Professional practice is at the heart of the DProf, which is open to experienced professionals who are employed in any area of work, including those in emerging professions and disciplines.

We will also be hosting a variety of public events between September 2019 – December 2020. More details are available on the CSTPV website at http://cstpv.wp.st-andrews.ac.uk/
