SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has marked Volunteers Week by celebrating its incredible 5,802 volunteers across the country who donated 1.25 million hours of their time last year…

Volunteers are at the heart of SSAFA’s work with the Armed Forces family. In 2017, SSAFA volunteers provided vital support to over 20,800 serving personnel, veterans and their families.

SSAFA branches provide personalised one-to-one support to the Armed Forces community in the area. Its volunteer caseworkers offer practical, financial or emotional support, including friendly advice on personal affairs, accessing financial assistance or assessing the need for special equipment for those with disabilities.

Christine Cribb, Head of Volunteering at SSAFA, said: “We never cease to be amazed by the dedication of our incredible volunteers. I would like to thank all the volunteers across the country who gave the gift of time last year. We couldn’t do it without your endless support.”

Volunteering for SSAFA is a great way to give something back to your local Armed Forces community and meet new people. A military background is not necessary, but life experience, motivation and enthusiasm are essential.
