The Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has awarded almost £240,000 to Veterans’ community centres in their latest round of funding…

Awards span the UK and are helping to ensure these vital buildings remain fit for purpose and available to Veterans of all ages. Eleven more centres will now receive funds to help them improve access, revamp toilet facilities, make vital roof and electric repairs and generally ensure Veterans have a place to go, day or night, to meet with others, socialise and overcome isolation.

The Llangollen branch of the RAF Association were awarded £20,000 to replace the roof of their building. Lesley Chew, Branch Club Committee Member said: “Our Royal Air Forces Association at Llangollen was formed in 1947, moving to its present accommodation in the early 1960s.

“Our Committee is overwhelmed to have received support from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, enabling long lasting repairs to the flat roof across the entire building aspect. This vital support will help us to flourish even more as we look to encourage even more of the veteran community through our doors. Thank you!”

Policy Director at the Trust, Sonia Howe, said: “This funding is simple to apply for and can make a huge difference to those using these Veteran-focussed buildings. Whether simple renovations, improvement of facilities or ensuring these centres can be used by all Veterans, young and old; we encourage those in charge of such a building to consider applying.”

Do you know of a veterans’ community centre in your local area in need of a refresh?

  • You must own an existing building (or hold a long lease)
  • You must be a charity or CIC that supports the Armed Forces community
  • Your building must be regularly used by Veterans (not just on an ad hoc basis)
  • Repairs, upgrades to electrics, plumbing or technology and new fixtures and fittings can be supported

There is also an opportunity to apply for up to £150,000 from this programme for exceptional, larger projects. The next closing date is 4 November. For full programme details, plus all you need to know about the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, visit their website www.covenantfund.org.uk.
