Tackling illegal immigration – be part of the solution

The Home Office mission is to keep Britain’s streets safe and its borders secure 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As part of Immigration Enforcement, you’ll work with partners across government to tackle serious and organised immigration crime. Our focus is on bringing to justice those who exploit the vulnerable, for example in cases of modern slavery and human trafficking.

Join us as an Immigration Officer and you can be part of this worthwhile work. Over 12-18 months, we’ll train you to enforce immigration laws by identifying, arresting and detaining immigration offenders. We’ll also teach you how to conduct database checks, examine documents, search property and people to collect evidence, and gather intelligence.

This is physically and mentally demanding work so, to succeed, you’ll need strong personal resilience and genuine integrity. You must be confident about managing difficult and challenging situations, whilst maintaining professionalism and sensitivity. That means sound people and communication skills. You’ll also be flexible in your approach and good at solving problems. A full UK driving licence is required in most cases.

Immigration Compliance and Enforcement Teams operate 365 days a year, so you should expect to work shifts, including unsociable hours, weekends and public holidays. There may be a requirement to undertake some travel across the UK and overseas.

Immigration Enforcement prides itself on being an open and supportive workplace. We actively embrace diversity and promote equality of opportunity, to enable us to reflect the communities that we serve. We provide people with the opportunity to work at pace and deliver in stretching roles.

As well as extensive training and development, we offer structured career progression. Other benefits include access to a valuable civil service pension and flexible working arrangements.
