600 Ex-Forces Personnel Placed In Civilian Roles Through FDM’s Ex-Forces Programme

FDM, an FTSE 250 professional services company with a particular interest in supporting ex-forces personnel transition from military service to civilian careers, has achieved a significant milestone: 600 ex-forces personnel have now been placed in exciting new civilian jobs through FDM.

Individuals that have served in the military have skills that can transfer to careers in technology and business. FDM recognises this and has now placed 600 veterans on 1000 placements across a wide variety of clients. Of these candidates, 169 have become permanent employees at the client FDM placed them with.

Due to a vast roster of well-known global companies as strategic partners, FDM has placed candidates in roles including cybersecurity, business analysis, IT services management and software testing, amongst others.

Individuals that have served in the military tend to have strong leadership and analytical skills and tend to be above average in technological proficiency. 68% of candidates that have gone through FDM’s ex-forces programme have been placed as full-time project management officers. Others have been placed in careers ranging from cyber-security, to business analysis, software testing and other similar roles where the skills they have gained in the military can be best harnessed.

“Halfway through the Advanced Ex-Forces course with FDM, I got the opportunity to successfully interview with a huge name within the financial services sector!” said FDM’s 1,000th ex-forces placement candidate, Rosslyn Beattie. “I’m enjoying the course so far and have gained the confidence that I can take my British Army experience and translate it to become a real asset to future clients. I can’t wait to get my new career on the road and would definitely recommend FDM for any service leavers looking for an assist to life after the Forces”, she said.

FDM Alumni and British Army Veteran Jason Woosnam, now Major Incident Manager at JP Morgan Chase & Co, commented: “It all started when I registered for an FDM Insight Day. I always thought I’d fall into a more ‘hands-on’ Network Engineer type of role, but from that day, I quickly saw how a role in IT Service Management would be the better option for career progression.

Having signed up for training, the trainers helped me see how the transferable skills I had obtained in the Army could be applied to the world of Business and when I got the chance to apply those skills during my on-site placement with a national Energy infrastructure organisation, I didn’t hold back.

“My advice to new veterans? Believe in your abilities. You have a lot of good experience from the forces that FDM understands and can help you maximise in a civilian career.”

FDM holds insight days every month for individuals in the forces, those that have left active duty already or someone considering their next career move after their military career commences. These events are currently being held virtually and can be used to ask questions, hear about other ex-servicepeople in the programme, and gain insight into how the FDM ex-forces programme can help from serving in the military to starting a brand new career path working in the tech and business industry. You can register your interest to attend one of these insight days here.
