Another Chance To Apply For ‘Tommy’ Funding

Following the success of the first round of funding, which saw nearly 1,500 communities receiving grants, the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust has confirmed a second round of funding for community groups wishing to host their own ‘Tommy’ installations…

In May, the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust (AFCFT) opened their initial round of funding in response to the support from grassroots, community-led campaign groups and places of worship wanting to host their own installations of silhouettes.

The fund is available as a micro award, which can be used by any school, community or faith group wanting to fund up to 10 silhouettes for installation; and use them to support a community event applications opened on the 3rd September 2018 and close on the 1st October 2018.

The silhouettes have been designed by conceptual photographer and installation artist Martin Barraud, who first created the Perspex men representing the Fallen in 2016 in Penthurst Church.

Since its launch in February, There But Not There has raised in excess of £3m and sold over 60,000 10 inch Perspex Tommies, replicas of the six foot versions that have gone up all over the UK.

There but Not There Director of Operations, Rowley Gregg MC said: “This funding is a terrific opportunity for community and faith groups who missed out previously to take part in this poignant national commemorative campaign.”

“Rolls of Honour bearing the names of those that lost their lives, adorn the walls of public spaces and places of worship up and down the country, and these silhouettes are a brilliant way to take these names off the wall and back into our consciousness 100 years on from the First World War”.

To apply, candidates need to fill in a short form, commit to hosting a community event in November 2018 and provide an opportunity to reflect on the Armistice as well as Armed Forces today.
