The Army Central Fund (ACF) has published its first-ever formal grantmaking strategy, setting out its approach to supporting the wellbeing of serving British Army personnel and their immediate families.
A longstanding grantmaking charity, the ACF funds initiatives aimed at improving the physical, social, emotional and occupational wellbeing of both Regular and Reserve soldiers, with the overarching goal of promoting Army efficiency for public benefit.
Alongside core funding commitments to the Army Families Federation, Army Sport, and welfare funds distributed by HQ Regional Command, the ACF also awards grants to national and local UK charities and, in some cases, Community Interest Companies (CICs).
Trustees assess applications based on the needs identified and the expected benefit to serving personnel and their families. The fund does not support veteran- or cadet-focused activities, nor does it accept applications from individuals.
The next funding deadline is Tuesday 30 September 2025, with decisions to be made at the November board meeting. Due to a change in the ACF’s financial year, the following deadline will fall on Wednesday 31 December 2025, with decisions expected in February 2026.
Organisations are encouraged to send a brief outline of their funding proposal to ACF Director Caroline Crewe-Read at grants@armycentralfund.org.uk. She will then follow up to discuss eligibility and the application process.
Army units and Army Sports Associations or Unions are reminded to follow the procedures outlined in Army Command Standing Order 3206 rather than applying directly to the ACF.
