Walking With The Wounded has appointed Alverne Bolitho to its board of trustees as the charity continues to expand its support for veterans across the UK.
Bolitho, who served for six years in the Grenadier Guards, brings both military and financial experience to the role, having spent his post-service career as a stockbroker and asset manager in London. A long-time supporter of the charity, he now lives in his native Cornwall.
His military service took him to Northern Ireland, Kenya, Cyprus, the USA and Germany. He comes from a family with strong military roots – his grandfather, father and brother all served, and his eldest son has followed in the same footsteps.
Commenting on his appointment, Bolitho said: “I very much believe in what Walking With The Wounded is doing and I look forward to having an active role during this exciting time for the future development of the charity. The goal is very much to enable us to meet, help and work with as many veterans who need our services as possible – there are always more who need us than we can connect with.”
Bolitho has supported Walking With The Wounded since its earliest days, having taken part in the first Cumbrian Challenge and continuing to fundraise through long-distance walking events. His next challenge, the Summit-to-Sea Challenge in Crete, is scheduled for 2026.
Reflecting on the charity’s future, he added: “This is a defining time in the evolution of Walking With The Wounded. It is still a relatively young charity, but our aim is to be as proactive as possible in identifying and meeting the needs of veterans. That ability to adapt and move forward according to what is required is what will enable us to stand above the crowd and to be effective.”
