Battle Proms: Raising Funds For The Forces Family

Tickets are now on sale for the Battle Proms, a spectacular series of open-air picnic concerts in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity working with military personnel, veterans and their families…

Battle Proms is a summer celebration with live orchestral music, carefully choreographed Spitfire and parachute displays, dramatic cannon fire and cavalry displays with a spectacular musical firework finale. The annual spectacular is set to return to historical British venues this summer, due to popular demand.

Since 2004 the UK’s premier picnic concert series, the Battle Proms has been supporting military charities, with their running total now standing at over £300,000. This year is the first year that they have joined forces with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity to raise funds and awareness of its vital work with serving members, veterans and Forces families.

Adam Slough, Event Director for Battle Proms, explains the decision to support SSAFA: “While our concerts are joyous occasions, we are mindful of the fact that much of the music we perform, such as our signature piece, Beethoven’s ‘Battle Symphony’, was written to commemorate battles in which lives were lost.

“It therefore seems fitting to give SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity a platform at the Battle Proms, to both raise awareness of and funds for their vital work with our serving Forces, veterans and their families.”

Jonathan Sandall, Director of Fundraising at SSAFA: “We are thrilled to be a part of such a dynamic and uplifting occasion, focusing on our pride for the Armed Forces. It’s a year of great celebration, being 100 years since the end of the First World War, as such it seems especially fitting that we are working with such a poignant event”.
