BFBS TV Launches BBC Bitesize Home Schooling Service For Forces Children Overseas

BFBS TV will broadcast eight hours of BBC Bitesize educational programmes from Monday 27th April to help forces families overseas with home schooling by giving them access to the new ‘lockdown service’ available on the BBC in the UK.

Nicky Ness, Director of Broadcasting and Entertainment, BFBS, says: “The service is in direct response to demand from our audience overseas for support with getting access to quality education materials for their children while the schools remain shut. The BBC Bitesize service is a fantastic resource so we’re delighted to be able to broadcast it daily to our audiences overseas who, like parents in the UK, are struggling to ensure their children are able to continue their education at home.”

These programmes are aimed at all children across the armed forces world and are split into age groups 5-7 years, 7-9 years, 9-11 years, 11-12, 12-13 years and 13-14 years. There will also be a block of programmes to support GCSE and A level curriculums to feed the brains of students during lockdown.

Teachers, experts and famous faces will participate in presenting what each age group should be learning that day.

To help children and parents with creating routine and daily structure, each block of programming will be available on BFBS TV Player as well as having its own regular slot on the BFBS Sport channel, as there is no live sport at the moment. Programme blocks will also be repeated at different times, tailored to all time zones.
