A powerful mix of emotion, ambition and action fuelled Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ annual Business Heroes Club Meet-Up, held at Convex Insurance in London.
Scotty’s CEO outlined the charity’s bold new vision before two of the record-breaking Mission Everest in 7 Days team lifted the lid on their extraordinary race to the top of the world and their powerful connection to the charity.
With attendees from businesses across the UK, the event highlighted how corporate support is driving sustainable impact for bereaved military children and young people – and explored Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ bold plans to expand its mission to support the wider bereaved military community.
Scotty’s supports children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces. The charity’s Business Heroes Club is a growing network of purpose-driven companies committed to embedding meaningful impact into their operations – and helping ensure Scotty’s remains financially sustainable for the long term.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers: ‘walking alongside families’
During the evening, Scotty’s Little Soldiers’ founder Nikki Scott, whose husband Corporal Lee Scott was killed in Afghanistan in 2009, spoke about the ongoing challenges for children who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces: “You don’t just tell a child once that their parent has died.
“You have to tell them multiple times as they grow – and the questions get tougher. What we do at Scotty’s is about walking alongside families as they face that reality, year after year.”
Scotty’s CEO Stuart Robinson shared the charity’s evolving vision: “We’ve supported 760 bereaved military children so far this year and we’re on track to hit 1,000 by 2030. But we’ve also seen the wider gaps – bereaved siblings, parents, widowed dads – and we’re exploring how Scotty’s can grow into the single point of contact for anyone impacted by military connected bereavement.”
