Catterick Race Course Welcomes The Military And Injured Service Personnel

Tickets are available now for ‘Salute our Heroes’ Race Day taking place on Tuesday 6 August 2013. Catterick Racecourse will open its gates to the military community and welcomes service personnel and their families to an afternoon meeting

Following the success of last year’s event, The Soldiers’ Charity will be raising much needed funds and awareness with the help of charity ambassadors Andy Reid, formerly of 3 YORKS and Sgt Gary Jamieson, 1st Bn Scots Guards. Both ambassadors are now triple amputees following IED explosions during service in Afghanistan.

The two ambassadors will be joined by fellow injured soldiers Mark Harding, formerly of Duke of Lancs, ex-Fusilier Martyn Gibbons and Sapper Jack Holmes, as well as their families.

Gates for the afternoon’s racing open at 12pm, with the first race at 2.15pm. There will be a number of attractions during the day, including field sports for children at 12.30pm, a raffle, tombola and BFBS radio will be providing music and a live relay broadcast with Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.

At 3pm The Tigers’ Parachute Display team from The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment will make a dramatic jump into the racecourse.

Jim Duffy, Liaison Officer for The Soldiers’ Charity says: “We have a wonderful relationship with Catterick Racecourse who are enormously supportive of The Soldiers’ Charity. We’re delighted to be working with SSAFA on what has always proved to be a really enjoyable family day out at the races.

"Tickets are only £15 and are free for serving personnel but must be booked in advance. Please call 01748 874 127 or emailnortheast@soldierscharity.org to get your free ticket. We look forward to seeing you all there!”

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity – the Army’s national charity since 1944 – supports thousands of soldiers, former soldiers and their families each year. The charity makes financial grants to individuals in times of need and specialist charities supporting the wider Army family.

The need for support continues to grow. The charity ambassadors and injured soldiers in attendance have also received charity funding to help with their rehabilitation.
