Commando Challenge: Getting Muddy, Raising Money

Adrenalin-addicts put their fitness skills to the test as they took on the gruelling Commando Challenge to raise money for blind veterans across the UK…

The sun shone for the first ever Commando Challenge organised in partnership with Commando X-Fit at the Blind Veterans UK training and rehabilitation centre in Llandudno.

The endurance course challenged competitors to crawl, run and navigate past obstacles, overseen by some rather vocal ex-Marines. The 120ft inflatable challenge included a blindfolded run, slippery slopes and crawl nets, a climbing wall scramble and a bungee run.

While it was a tough ask, the organisers made sure the challenge was adapted to suit all ages and abilities.

Among the participants were best friends Lisa and Christina, who were both taking part to challenge their own endurance and raise money for Blind Veterans UK. After the event, a flushed and exhilarated Lisa said: “One word AWESOME. The Marines and volunteers were great.

“It was a super experience, belly crawling through the mud, crawling along the tunnel and all around a fantastic day. The route is relatively tough but really enjoyable! There was also the added bonus that it’s local and is raising money for such an important charity.”

Victoria, a regional fundraiser with Blind Veterans UK, said: “Thank you to all participants, volunteers and supporters for making the event such a success – it’s fantastic to see a community come together like this.

“The event would not have been possible without the support of Commando X-Fit who were just amazing today. We really hope we will be able to build on today’s success and make next year’s Commando Challenge even bigger, better and more gruelling.”

The Commando Challenge is one of a variety of mass-participation fundraising events that help the charity raise funds. Find out more about this and other upcoming events here.
