Downing Street To Celebrate Legion’s 90th Anniversary

Downing Street will host a garden party on 10th June for the Armed Forces Family in celebration of The Royal British Legion’s 90th Anniversary year and in support of The Royal British Legion Battle Back Centre

160 guests will attend the garden party, including injured and decorated Service personnel, bereaved Armed Forces families and veterans of Afghanistan and past conflicts. Also, in attendance will be iconic World War II Forces sweetheart, Dame Vera Lynn.

People across the nation are holding Great Poppy Parties to celebrate the Legion’s 90th Anniversary and help raise vital funds for The Royal British Legion Battle Back Centre, a national centre of excellence designed to rehabilitate wounded, injured and long-term sick Armed Forces personnel through adventurous training and adaptive sports.

The Battle Back Centre will enable Armed Forces personnel to regain their fitness and return to duty, or reskill and make a successful transition to civilian life. It will be crucial to the Legion’s support of the Afghan generation, which is part of the charity’s mission to put welfare at the heart of the organisation and to stand shoulder to shoulder with all who Serve.

The Legion aims to raise £90 million in its 90th Anniversary year, in particular to help fund the Battle Back Centre and the operating costs of four Personnel Recovery Centres for ten years. The £50 million for these invaluable programmes is the Legion’s biggest single funding commitment in 90 years. The programmes will help up to 1000 Service personnel each year for the next ten years.
