Greenwich Hospital Awards ASDIC Grant

Greenwich Hospital, ASDIC

Greenwich Hospital has awarded ASDIC (the Association of Service Drop-in Centres) a grant of £16,195 to help fund its operation as it continues to support its 175 member centres across 220 locations in the UK.

ASDIC works with veteran drop-in centres and hubs to improve and enhance their services to meet the different needs of their local veteran communities. It also represents their needs and lends visibility and a voice to the network.

The drop-in centres and hubs provide a safe and comforting space to welcome veterans and their families, with many offering a range of support services to address welfare and mental health concerns, as well as providing a friendly face in a relaxed setting. The centres are run mainly by veterans for veterans and, being rank and service agnostic, rely on shared service experiences to foster a friendly yet professional space in which to meet.

Many of the centres also run Breakfast Clubs. The clubs provide a platform for veterans to come together, share their experiences and support each other. Although the emphasis is on social interaction, many of the Breakfast Clubs work to address both social and welfare needs, providing a comprehensive support system for veterans.

ASDIC was established as a charity four years ago in response to the demand for guidance and advice from drop-in centres working with veterans. They operate in a regional structure, delivering networking and learning opportunities in pursuit of best practice, gathering national data and channelling information, expertise and help.

Jonathan Ball OBE, Director of Grants, Greenwich Hospital, said: “ASDIC is working to ensure its funding and support model is sustainable in the long term. We recognise the challenges of funding gaps and have stepped in to provide a grant to ensure the valuable work of supporting veteran-run initiatives on the ground and across the UK continues.”

Tracy Bryant, Chief Executive Officer of ASDIC, said: “We are delighted to receive this funding award from Greenwich Hospital as it allows us to continue our work to build a sustainable funding cycle for future development. This is a pivotal time for ASDIC as we ensure that our members get the support they need to deliver their vital and immediate services in their local communities.”
