Opportunities in Teaching and Classroom Support

Teaching Personnel is the UK’s leading education recruitment agency. Since 1996 we have registered hundreds of thousands of teachers and classroom support staff who have chosen us to help them find work in UK classrooms.

With 80 branches across England & Wales and over 5,000 client schools, registering with Teaching Personnel provides access to a significant number of job opportunities for those seeking a career in education. Increasingly we are helping ex-forces personnel with a passion for education and for helping children become the best versions of themselves.

Don’t just take our word for it! Here are a few stories from some of our ex-forces candidates who have moved their career in this direction…

Andy:

“I was a corporal in the British Army serving with the Logistic Corp and would oversee around 25 Lance Corporals and Private Soldiers.

There would be occasions where I would teach lessons which could be either weapon handling skills, First Aid or Physical Education. I found great satisfaction in doing this, especially when individuals who found certain areas a struggle then improved.

Teaching Personnel were extremely helpful and always there to answer questions. I attended a 2-day course called Team-Teach which involved appropriate handling skills and different ways to approach situations and help to defuse them. I found this course really useful.

I’ve had experience with learning difficulties from helping a family member but being at the school really opened my eyes. I found it really satisfying and rewarding to be working at the school and I was fortunate to be able to work with different ages and abilities.”

Barry:

“After being discharged from the Royal Navy I wanted to go into education, however I felt work experience was essential in knowing if the industry was the right choice. I signed up to Teaching Personnel to work as a cover supervisor and teaching assistant, going into local schools to cover absent staff. Teaching Personnel has propelled me into a rewarding career where I can put the skills I gained from the military into use, skills that may not be on the curriculum but essential for school leavers.

Furthermore, as a disabled veteran, TP have been extremely accommodating with my injuries and will support me when I need time off or if I need to alter my hours. For those looking at a career in education after serving, Teaching Personnel will not only support your transition from the military to civvy street with continued professional personal development but will support your journey to a fun and rewarding career in education.”

Ian:

“I was introduced to Teaching Personnel via the National Association of Retired Police Officers. Within hours of submitting my CV to the company I received a very pleasant phone call from them. Following a discussion about the options available to me I was invited to an interview. This was also a very relaxed pleasant experience during which my skills and abilities were discussed and where they might be put to best use.

I have now been with Teaching Personnel for about one year and during this time I have worked as a Cover Supervisor at several local schools. The work, although challenging on occasion, is rewarding and fun. There is also plenty of opportunity to improve your skills around teaching with the many varied courses on offer.

Teaching Personnel’s staff are always friendly and personable, and I would highly recommend them for anyone looking to be involved in the teaching profession. The service has been excellent, and staff go the extra mile to find positions as often as is required.”

John:

“I consider myself very lucky to have enjoyed an interesting, varied and at times a very challenging working career. After serving 14 years in the RAF as an electronics engineer I joined South Yorkshire Police in 1996. During the next 21 years I served in a variety of uniform departments and decided to leave after serving my last four years as a custody sergeant at Doncaster.

My big passion is travelling and after trips to Oman, Hong Kong and Vietnam I decided to seek work that would both compliment my lifestyle whilst offering certain challenges. I very nearly entered teaching in 1996 and decided that my life and work experiences would enable me to make a positive contribution in the classroom environment.

Teaching Personnel have made everything easy for me. After attending an interview, I was able to discuss my working needs and expectations and have never looked back. I have a dedicated specialist consultant at Teaching Personnel who contacts me regarding current working assignments, provides feedback and discusses any upcoming working assignments. I can work as little or as often as I like and for me this arrangement is perfect.”
