RAF Benevolent Fund Donation To National Book Charity

Paul Hewson, Regional Director for the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF), the RAF’s leading welfare charity, met with representatives of the Calibre Audio Library at their headquarters in Aylesbury on 17h March 2010 to present a cheque for £2,500

The donation was made to support the work Calibre Audio Library does with people who have sight problems, dyslexia or physical disabilities, bringing them the pleasure of reading through a free nationwide postal service of recorded books.

The charity enjoys a strong relationship with trainee personnel from nearby RAF Halton, who regularly volunteer at its offices, and caters to a large number of RAF family members. Last year alone 169 new subscribers to the service were ex-RAF, serving RAF or a dependant, taking advantage of Calibre’s free services.

Paul Hewson said: “I am delighted to present this donation to Calibre Audio Library, which does such invaluable work bringing the pleasure of reading to RAF family members with sight problems or other disabilities. It’s important for the RAF Benevolent Fund to work with other charities to provide help where it makes the most difference, and Calibre’s splendid work with visually impaired people is an excellent example of how we can do this.”

Calibre CEO, Michael Lewington said: “It is so important to Calibre that people who are blind and partially sighted, physically disabled or dyslexic are still able to enjoy the pleasure and benefits of reading, free-of-charge. Thanks to the RAF Benevolent Fund’s support of Calibre’s work, they are. Since 1979, the RAFBF have been one of Calibre’s most generous and faithful supporters.”
