Scottish Armed Forces Charity Celebrates Bicentenary At The Queen’s 90th Birthday

Staff, supporters and beneficiaries of Scotland’s Armed Forces Children’s Charity will be attending the giant street party taking place on the Mall in London this weekend to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday…

The Royal Caledonian Education Trust (RCET), which is based in Edinburgh, is one of 600 charities throughout Britain and Commonwealth of whom the Queen is Patron, that will be joining in the Royal celebrations this Sunday

The occasion is particularly significant, not least because it coincides with the anniversary of the RCET’s bicentenary.

Commenting RCET chief executive James MacBain says “The charity has an incredible history. It was established by act of parliament on 14th June 1815 to care for the homeless and orphaned children of Scots soldiers lost during the Napoleonic wars. Two hundred years later, we continue to fulfil the aims of the original charter by providing education support for children of Scottish serving and veteran families in need or living with disability and ill health.

“This weekend will be a celebration of our Patron and the considerable support we have received from the Royal family during the 200 years we have been in existence and what could be more fitting than commemorating this on the occasion of The Queen’s 90th Birthday.”
