SSAFA Shortlisted For Third Sector Award

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity has been shortlisted for the Third Sector Charity Partnership of the Year award thanks to its successful working relationship with Age UK…

SSAFA has been partnered with Age UK to deliver the Joining Forces Project, an initiative funded by the Armed Forces Covenant. The project aims to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of older veterans born before 1950, and their families.

Joining Forces has delivered 12 local projects, which involve a partnership between a local SSAFA branch and the local Age UK groups. The projects are currently running in: Cheshire East, North Yorkshire and Darlington, Gloucestershire, Lancashire, Leicestershire & Rutland, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Portsmouth, Tyne & Wear, West Cumbria, Wirral, Wolverhampton and Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Sophie Nathan, Joining Forces Outreach Advisor for SSAFA, said: “We are honoured to be nominated for this award. The project has enabled us to reach more veterans who are struggling and offer a more streamlined service. We have been working hard with Age UK to ensure that no older veteran’s call goes unanswered and we feel privileged that our work has been recognised”.

The Charity Partnership of the Year award is given to a partnership that has enabled the partners to more effectively deliver services to its beneficiaries, reach new groups and reduce costs. Previous nominees include: Refuaid and Street UK, Saints Foundation and The Big Issue, Friends of the Elderly and the West Ham United Foundation and many more.
