Homelessness charity Alabaré have joined forces with Community Self Build Agency including SAS Veteran and TV presenter Ken Hames MBE, as part of an exciting new development…
Since being set up in the late 1980’s, the innovative charity Community Self Build Agency (CSBA) have helped hundreds of homeless or vulnerable people to have the opportunity to build their own home. From May this year, CSBA has become part of Alabaré, with the charity taking over the operational management of the CSBA.
Andrew Lord, Alabaré Chief Executive says: “We are thrilled to be joined by the team from CSBA, including SAS Veteran and TV presenter Ken Hames MBE. Now Alabaré residents, Veterans and a range of other people in need of housing, will have the chance to take part in the planning, design and build of their own homes. They will be able to develop a wide variety of skills in construction and other industries. This is a new type of work for our charity, and we are excited to be reaching people in areas of the UK which are new to us.”
CSBA have completed over 178 self-build projects across the UK to date, developing in-excess of 1200 housing units to some of the most disadvantaged members of the local community. Their award-winning schemes have included the Nelson Project in Plymouth – a 24-home site that includes 12 self-build homes for the military veterans and 12 mixed use affordable homes, including supported housing.
