Beloved television favourite Glen Michael, best known for his success with Glen Michael’s Cartoon Cavalcade, has thrown his support behind Erskine as it prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
Glen began his career as an entertainer on stage – he and his wife Beryl would perform for troops during the war – before he joined the RAF. Glen would later go on to have iconic hit shows spanning the 60s, 70s and 80s. He found further success on the Scottish theatre circuit, performing alongside the likes of Rikki Fulton and Jack Milroy.
Famed for capturing the hearts of the Scottish audience, Glen expressed his delight in supporting those who have served their country. He said: “Having served, I understand the sacrifices made by our servicemen and women.
“It is an honour to stand with Erskine and support their mission of supporting Veterans, especially as we approach the significant 80th anniversary of D-Day. It’s crucial that we recognise and appreciate the dedication of those who have served and the sacrifices that they have made.”
Erskine Veterans Charity will pay tribute to D-Day throughout the year, culminating in a celebration on June 6th, with a series of events, fundraising options and volunteering opportunities.
As Scotland’s foremost provider of care for Veterans and their spouses, Erskine Veterans Charity provides unrivalled nursing, residential and dementia care in care homes throughout Scotland. Residents include 98-year-old D-Day veteran Albert Lamond.
Erskine also assists Veterans who need help to begin the next chapter of their lives, offering social, recreation and training facilities at the Erskine Reid Macewen Activity Centre and employment opportunities.
The Veterans Village in Bishopton has 44 cottages for Veterans and their families as well as five Assisted Living Apartments and 23 Transitional Supported Accommodation Apartments – supporting Veterans of all ages, from those that served in WWII up until the present day, ensuring Erskine provides Futures for the Brave.
