UK Takes Part In Bright Star Military Training Exercise

The UK has joined forces with Egypt, the United States and a number of other countries in Exercise Bright Star as part of its military co-operation…

Earlier this year HMS ARGYLL of the British Royal Navy visited Alexandria Naval Base to facilitate discussions between senior Egyptian and UK Naval Officers about bilateral co-operation including training exercises and maritime security in the Mediterranean and Red Seas.

This year also witnessed a number of high-level defence visits including from the UK’s Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa Lieutenant General John Lorimer and Assistant Chief of Defence Staff Major-General Giles Hill. These visits help reinforce the UK’s firm commitment to Egypt in combatting terrorism.

British Defence Attaché, Colonel Ed Sandry said: “Egypt and the UK continue to work closely together in the face of the shared threat of terrorism. This exercise is an important part of our military co-operation, allowing our troops to work side-by-side in realistic training scenarios. UK expertise in counter-terrorism capabilities play a key role in this multinational collaboration.”
