Veterans’ Foundation has awarded a £25,000 grant to Housing Options Scotland to support its Military Matters Service, which provides housing advice and support to members of the armed forces community across Scotland.
Housing Options Scotland helps disabled people, older adults and veterans find suitable housing and has more than 25 years of experience supporting people in all 32 council areas. The latest funding will allow the charity to continue offering tailored, face-to-face support for veterans navigating the often complex process of finding a home.
Supporting veterans into stable housing
During the grant period, the Military Matters team helped 200 clients find suitable housing, including a REME veteran who had been sofa surfing in the Scottish Borders and has since secured a family home in Edinburgh.
The team also delivered a series of in-person and online outreach events at RAF Lossiemouth, HMNB Clyde and the Lothian Veterans Centre.
Moira Bayne, chief executive of Housing Options Scotland, said the long-term support from the Veterans’ Foundation had been crucial to the service’s work. “This latest grant has been particularly helpful in enabling Housing Options Scotland to offer face-to-face visits with clients and accompany them to view properties,” she said. “Many veterans find this a stressful process, and thanks to VF we are able to be alongside veterans in person as well as online.”
Long-term partnership
The Veterans’ Foundation has supported Housing Options Scotland for several years, funding its specialist housing work with veterans through grants. The charity’s Military Matters Service provides person-centred advice and practical help, ensuring veterans have access to stable housing as they adjust to civilian life.
