Yompers Set To Take Over Perthshire In Epic Trek

This Armed Forces Day (Saturday 30 June) will see over 400 yompers take over Perthshire for the second annual Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp to raise money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and chosen charity of event sponsors Alliance Trust – the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust

Walkers of all abilities will take part in the bronze at 22 miles, silver at 36.5 miles or the ultimate – gold challenge – at 52 miles across Blairgowrie, Kirkmichael, Spittal of Glenshee and Kirkton of Glenisla.

Amongst the record 400+ strong participants, a team of Gurkhas will travel to Perthshire to compete in the second annual Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp. The team of five gurkhas of The Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment from Hampshire will start two hours after the other walkers as the team have vowed to yomp home in record time.

There will be no rest for participants with challenges of archery, clay pigeon shooting and other adventurous activities at the various scenic checkpoints along the way to keep them on their toes during the yomp.

Robin Bacon, Chief of Staff of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, said: “The Soldiers’ Charity is the national charity of the British Army, here to support soldiers, former soldiers and families in times of need – that’s what we’ve been doing since 1944.

"We look forward to welcoming supporters of the charity, soldiers and gurkhas to join together and take part in an event that combines determination, hard work, fun and charity in aid of a worthwhile and honourable organisation.”
