We answer some of your questions on the event below…

Who is the event for?

The event is open to ANYONE from the forces family.

You can be serving personnel, veterans or spouses and partners of either.

Pathfinder editor, Mal Robinson points out “these events are not solely for people in resettlement. You could be serving and want to test the water to see what’s out there in civvy street and these types of event could be the deciding factor, whether you stay in or get out. It is also for serving personnel looking to improve themselves whilst still in and speak to training providers who can help them explain their ELCAS credits.

It is of course also for those in resettlement and those who have left the military and want to network and are looking for jobs or to use their training credits (which can still be used five years after service)”

There is something for everyone connected to the military on the day.

How to get there

With a city-centre location, St. James’ Park is one of the most accessible and well-connected football grounds in the UK.

Newcastle upon Tyne is served by the Tyne & Wear Metro system; a light rail network with frequent services between Newcastle city centre, major transport interchanges and destinations south to Wearside.

We recommend St. James’ Metro station for local destinations, while Monument station – a five-minute walk away – is served by both yellow and green line routes towards Newcastle International Airport, South Shields and the coast.

Situated on the East Coast Mainline, Newcastle Central Station is a principle stop for services between London and Edinburgh/ Glasgow. It also offers direct cross-country routes to and from Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool Birmingham and Bristol.

The station is a ten-minute walk from St. James’ Park; walk west along Neville Street (A186) and turn right onto St. James’ Boulevard. The stadium will become visible as you reach the junction of Bath Lane/ Wellington Street.

We have two major bus stations for local and regional services: Haymarket, for services to and from Northumberland and the North, and Eldon Square, for services to and from County Durham and the South.

Both are located on Percy Street, a five-minute walk from St. James’ Park.

To reach the stadium, walk south west on Percy Street and turn right onto Gallowgate.

Getting there by car

At the end of the A1(M) continue onto the A1 North and then the A184 towards Newcastle. Continue along this road, bearing left onto the A189. Continue over the River Tyne on the Redheugh Bridge, from which the ground can be clearly seen. Carry on straight up the dual carriageway (St James Boulevard). This leads directly to the Gallowgate end of the ground.
