The Massed Bands of the Royal Marines will perform their world-renowned Beating Retreat at London’s iconic Horse Guards Parade on 30th and 31st May…
Only performed every two years, this magnificent pageant of military music, precision drill and colour dates back to the 16th century and is regarded as a piece of living history.
The Massed Bands of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines are a collection of 200 highly-talented musicians comprised of Royal Marines from five individual bands based at Portsmouth, Gosport, Plymouth, Scotland and the Commando Training Centre.
On 30th and 31st May, at the atmospheric Horse Guard’s Parade in London, attendees will enjoy the traditional Naval Ceremonial Sunset with the First Sea Lord, Sir Admiral Philip Jones KCB ADC, in attendance. Performances will run from 19:00 to 20:30 with gates opening at 18:00.
Lt Col Jon Ridley, Principal Director of Music of the Royal Marines Band Service, commented: “There will be the traditional marching displays from the Massed Bands and both drum beatings and spectacular drum display from the Corps of Drum. The music will range from both traditional and newly composed marches to a WW1 centenary tribute in the finale.
“There are some exciting solos, drumming features for the Corps of Drums and a pop music suite entitled ‘Spectrum’, amongst what I hope will be an inspiring and enjoyable programme”.
All proceeds made from the breath-taking Beating Retreat will go to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. For over ten years, the RNRMC has distributed over £55 million to help ensure that those in the Naval Service receive the support they deserve – from life changing grants during times of immediate need, to smaller deployment grants that aide morale and retention – the RNRMC works hard to ensure that no one is forgotten.
