Topping Out At Former HQ Land Forces Site

John Glen MP joined the Our Wilton team, along with stakeholders and supporters of the project to commemorate a milestone in the development on Friday 27th April…

He joined Matthew Bell, CEO Our Enterprise up on the roof of the new veterans’ accommodation based on the former HQ UK Land Forces site in Wilton to lay the last roof tile. This signifies the next stage of the project to prepare 44 flats ready for ex-serving personnel to move into in early 2019.

As part of an innovative new approach delivering housing and creating an integrated community, veterans will live, work and socialise in a vibrant new space with an enterprise hub, coffee shop and access to training, employment and support to prepare them for independent living.

The partnership between Redrow, Our Enterprise and Wilton Community Land Trust has shown that new housing developments can offer something for the whole community.

As well as the 292 Redrow homes, there are 39 McCarthy and Stone Retirement Living apartments, plans for a care home and an early years setting on the site, as well as the veterans’ flats, enterprise hub, and a range of live/work units for serving and ex-serving personnel.

Jon Fletcher, Regional Managing Director, Redrow Homes Southern Counties, said: “This a fantastic milestone for all involved in this project at Our Wilton. The accommodation and other facilities will provide local veterans with a wonderful place to regroup and retrain, alongside a developing and flourishing new community at Wilton Hill. We look forward to welcoming the first residents to the veterans hub in the near future.”

Sue van Leest, Operations Manager, Our Wilton said: “Today marks the next phase in this exciting project, with plans to start the construction of the enterprise hub while we fit out the veterans’ flats to create real homes alongside a range of fantastic opportunities to be part of the Wilton community.”

Our Wilton Trust has launched the next stage of its fund-raising to fit out the flats. If you would like to support the charity or find out more about our plans, please get in touch.
