Spectacular Displays, Spectacular Fundraising

Birmingham International Tattoo raised £8,866 for Royal Star & Garter through programme sales and an end-of-show collection on its second day…

The event, which took place at Birmingham Arena on 23-24 November, marked the 12th year that the Tattoo has supported Royal Star & Garter. During that time, a total of £118,302 has been raised for the charity.

The prestigious annual Birmingham International Tattoo is the largest indoor event of its kind in Britain, featuring over 1,000 performers. The two-day event includes marching bands from across the UK and Europe, and spectacular military displays.

Royal Star & Garter also benefitted from the support to the West Midlands branch of Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, which provided 31 volunteers on the day to sell programmes and manage the collections. Student nurses, Allied Healthcare Professionals and staff at the Co-operative Funeralcare in Solihull also provided volunteers.

Royal Star & Garter Chief Executive Andy Cole addressed the audience at the Tattoo. He later said: “Once again, our thanks go to the organisers and volunteers for their wonderful work supporting us, and the audiences who have given so generously. Their donations will help us continue providing exceptional care to veterans and their partners at our Home in Solihull.”

Tattoo Producer Norman Rogerson MBE said: “In this special year when we commemorated the 75th Anniversary of D-Day at the Tattoo it is particularly pleasing that we raised so much for Royal Star & Garter who do so much to look after veterans both in nearby Solihull and in their other Homes. We only run our event for two days every year but the Homes look after veterans every day of the year and we are pleased that we can support their valuable work, thanks to our generous audiences.”
