A new event aimed at helping veterans, service leavers, reservists and military families explore careers in the tech sector will take place in Scotland this October, marking a first for TechVets and its partner Belcan.

The Belcan x TechVets: Get into Tech event will be held on Tuesday 7 October 2025 at the Alona Hotel in Strathclyde Country Park. Running from 12:30 to 18:00, the event is open to anyone in the Armed Forces community who is interested in a second career in areas such as digital engineering, data, cybersecurity and advanced technology.

The event is organised by TechVets – part of the Forces Employment Charity – in collaboration with Belcan, a global supplier of engineering and IT services. It aims to offer practical guidance and networking opportunities for those considering or actively preparing for a transition into the tech industry.

Attendees will hear from employers and industry professionals, take part in informal networking, and learn how military-acquired skills can translate into a civilian tech career. Potential employers, including Belcan, will be present to speak about available roles and career pathways.

Transport support is being explored for those travelling from further afield, including from HMNB Clyde, to improve accessibility for the wider Armed Forces community.

The event comes at a time when the UK Government’s 2025 Strategic Defence Review is placing increased emphasis on national growth in sectors such as AI, cybersecurity, and data science – with a recognised need for new talent pipelines that include skilled veterans and service leavers.

The Get into Tech event is free to attend and open to:

  • Veterans
  • Service leavers
  • Currently serving personnel exploring future options
  • Reservists
  • Military spouses, partners and children
