The Rolling of the Sea

The band ‘Little Red Ambulance’ is proud to announce the release of their new single, ‘The Rolling of the Sea’, featuring Culdrose Military Wives Choir.

The song is accompanied by a poignant music video, directed by established filmmaker and RNRMC Ambassador Chris Terrill, and captures the raw emotions of sailors and their loved ones as they bid farewell before a deployment.

With a deep commitment to supporting those who serve, all proceeds from purchasing and streaming ‘The Rolling of the Sea’ will be donated to the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC). The charity provides essential support to naval families and personnel, making a significant impact on their lives.

Little Red Ambulance is formed of five talented members, two of which are serving in the Royal Navy. Lead singer Lt Cdr Phil Clark and Acoustic Guitar Player Lt Cdr Dave Emery are both Naval Aircrew and are essential to the operations of Naval helicopters, often in the thick of the action. The band has previously been recognised for their song ‘Sailing Home for Christmas’, which was featured in the BBC documentary ‘Warship: Tour of Duty’.

Their new song was inspired by Dave’s journal from the day HMS Queen Elizabeth sailed out of Portsmouth Harbour for a seven-and-a-half-month deployment. Little Red Ambulance’s music continues to resonate with audiences, particularly those with connections to the military.

An excerpt from the journal reads:

“All of a sudden, we were through the mouth of the harbour…Looking back, the cheering of the crowd started to fade and the flags stopped waving. The excitement that I’d felt passing through the mouth of the harbour started to turn to sadness. I imagined all the wives and husbands left behind, taking their deflated children back to the car.”

Dawn Ingram, Director of Fundraising at RNRMC, said:

“We are immensely grateful to Little Red Ambulance for their generous contribution through the release of ‘The Rolling of The Sea’. The proceeds from this heartfelt song will help us to continue to provide vital support to Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their families. The emotional depth of the song truly reflects the experiences of our community, and we are touched by the band’s dedication to our cause.”

The music video for ‘The Rolling of the Sea’ has been directed by renowned filmmaker Chris Terrill, famous for his investigative journalism and documentary series ‘HMS Brilliant’. The video provides a visual narrative that complements the song’s heartfelt lyrics and melody. It also features Culdrose Military Wives Choir, whose vocals add specific relevance and depth to the track. Choirmaster Pete Truin wrote the choral score for the track, as well as for ‘Sailing Home for Christmas’, which the choir were also involved with last year.

The new song is now available on all major streaming services. Supporters can purchase the song for less than £1, knowing that their contribution will make a difference in ensuring that sailors, marines and their families are supported – for life.

The music video is available to watch on the RNRMC’s YouTube channel here.
