Tommy To Tommy Walk

Walkers at the “Tommy” Statue on North Terrace, Seaham, County Durham.

The Tommy To Tommy charity walk is a walk in aide of the Hartlepool Heugh Battery Museum. A group of veterans will be walking from the ‘Tommy Statue’ at Seaham, County Durham for 16 miles along the coastal path to the ‘Tommy Silhouette’ at the Heugh Battery Museum at Hartlepool Headland on the 19 May 2019. They are hoping to have around 140 walkers with others joining for the last mile along the Hartlepool promenade.

The Hartlepool’s Sea Cadets and Army Cadets will be at the event, some of which are doing the walk, brass bands, and singers from the 1940’s era, tombola stalls etc. The entrance fee to the Battery is free for that day.

The Battery had asked for help as there was going to be a £5,000 shortfall in running costs this year, meaning closure could happen. The site is run by volunteers and does receive funding from the Lottery, but had lost grants from the local council.

The Heugh Battery Museum provides a look back at British history as it’s a preserved battlefield and lots more; we feel it need protection from closure. Local schools visit giving an insight to our town’s history and hopefully making a difference to the local community with people visiting from outside the area.
