Joseph Mitcham would like lots of people to buy his new book, but is focusing his efforts on people who don’t already read for pleasure. He suggests that reading more might be a good, intellectual New Year’s resolution to make.

“I’ve never been much of a reader, but found that once my taste buds were whet by Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ book, ‘The Feather Men’, it opened up a whole new world of enjoyment.”

Joseph’s book, ‘The Watch List’ describes an incredible plot, where the hero, Alex, stumbles across the UK Terror Watch List and decides to steal it. He then brings together a formidable team of veterans from elite and special forces to dispatch the worst of the suspects.

“I found the plot incredibly challenging to write at times, some readers will find the premise of the storyline abhorrent, but I think that good fiction should be challenging. If the debate around my book brings more people to reading, then that can only be a good thing.

“Authenticity and realism is vital in a ‘military techno-thriller’, such as The Watch List. I hope that I’ve achieved that.”

Having served in the regular Army for over 16 years with elite and technical units, Joseph hopes that his writing is realistic and grounded. Resettling from the Army in Yarm, after serving on the permanent staff of 34 Signal Regiment until its closure in 2010, Joseph feels at home in Tees Valley; “Being a southerner from Suffolk, I wasn’t sure what to expect from life in the North-east, but Yarm Rugby Club took me in and gave me an instant family.”

The Watch List is available now on in paperback and as an e-book on Kindle and can be purchased via the link below.
