Greenwich Hospital has awarded the charity Holidays for Heroes Jersey a £31,000 grant to support the Royal Navy’s most severely injured and sick personnel from the Hasler Naval Recovery Centre based in Plymouth.
The Hasler Recovery Centre is a dedicated facility for the rehabilitation and recovery of serving Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel who have been injured or become ill during service and provides a range of support services to help individuals in their recovery and transition back to active duty or civilian life.
Holidays for Heroes Jersey recognises the impact of injury and life-changing or life-limiting physical and mental illness on serving and veteran personnel and their families and works to provide much-needed downtime in the form of a holiday.
Thanks to the grant funding, Holidays for Heroes Jersey will continue to play a crucial role in providing dedicated respite breaks for Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel. The holidays, while offering a much-needed break from routine, will allow personnel to continue their recovery and rehabilitation programme. This initiative is part of Greenwich Hospital’s funding strategy to support the health and wellbeing of Royal Naval personnel.
Richard Harwood, Chairman of Holidays for Heroes Jersey, comments: “Thank you to Greenwich Hospital for enabling us to offer valuable breaks to those from Hasler working to recover physically and mentally from injuries and illness sustained while serving.”
Commanding Officer Major Steve Cox said: “The Royal Navy Recovery Centre Hasler has been very fortunate to be invited to the beautiful island of Jersey over the past few years. We at Hasler cannot thank Holidays for Heroes Jersey enough for their kind invite and the enduring support for our wounded, injured and sick service personnel.”
Jersey has strong links to the military. The Charity was founded in 2008 by Richard and Dawn Woodhouse MBE in recognition of the valuable contributions made by UK armed forces personnel in serving and supporting the Channel Islands.
The Charity organises holidays, covers travel and accommodation costs for personnel and often their families and works to ensure those unable to fund the trip are not excluded.
Over 3,000 former and serving personnel and their families have benefited from holidays through the Charity to date.
