Location: Taunton, Somerset
Salary: £42,507pa
Hours: Full time, part time, job share
Contract: Permanent
In order to maintain UKHO’s high profile and strong credibility throughout the global maritime community, we are a seeking an Engagement Manager to ensure consistent messaging across our national and international engagements. Much of the work is high profile and this role offers a career defining opportunity within a leading, modern and progressive agency.
About the UKHO
UKHO is an executive agency, sponsored by the Ministry of Defence. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners, surveying and charting the world’s oceans in order to develop and serve world leading software and data solutions to commercial shipping companies, navies and maritime organisations. Our products ensure safe navigation and global trade efficiency and support other marine activities including economic development, environmental protection, resource exploration and utilisation, scientific research and security and defence.
The role
In an increasingly digitalised world, the number of sources of data available to the mariner continues to grow. A common set of regulatory standards is therefore vital to ensure data will be valuable to those using it both now and in the future. The International Hydrographic Office’s (IHO) S-100 framework is playing a fundamental role in transforming the way maritime data is shared and used. UKHO is committed to developing S-100 products and services and as part of this commitment we are seeking an Engagement Manager to ensure a consistent message across all forums internally and externally.
Engagement may have various forms (e.g. written, video-conference, in person), and have various aims (e.g. monitor, influence, exploit). As the Regulatory Bodies and S-100 Engagement Manager, you will co-ordinate S-100 stakeholder engagement across UKHO and ensure that the internal/external communications plan is coordinated and progressed in a timely manner. You will also carry out technical engagements with regulatory bodies on behalf of UKHO to ensure that UKHO products and services remain compliant with domestic carriage regulations, and you will work with partner organisations to influence developments in future regulations in particular with regard to S-100 and autonomous vessels.
What we are looking for
With experience of engagement, ideally in the context of UKHO operations, you will offer:
- Excellent, concise and unambiguous written communication skills, with good awareness of international sensitivities.
- Planning and organising skills to prioritise workload to meet fixed and often tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical ability to review and interpret papers and correspondence received, to quickly establish the implications and relevance to UKHO.
- Strong analytical ability to quickly review, interpret and challenge input from SMEs, in the context of UKHO strategic objectives.
- A sound appreciation of UKHO and the need for engagement with international and technical bodies.
In return
UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard to beat.
