SSAFA

This is a VOLUNTEER position

Branch Recruitment Officers, in conjunction with the Branch Chairman and Branch Secretary, are responsible for the recruitment, retention and succession planning of volunteers at Branch and Division level. Branch Recruitment Officers are supported by the Branch Secretary and regional Volunteer Support Managers.

Branch Recruitment Officers receive local induction training about SSAFA upon joining the organisation. Interviews and references are part of the recruitment process.

A forces background is not essential, a driver’s licence is beneficial for some geographical areas and IT skills are necessary. All volunteers are required to adhere to Our Volunteer Policy.

Duties of a Branch Recruitment Officer include:

  • Developing and implementing a local recruitment process in line with the national SSAFA volunteer recruitment procedure and ensuring office holders are familiar with that procedure.
  • Arranging and conducting the interview of potential volunteers, ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed as appropriate, collated and relevant papers are sent to Central Office in a timely manner

  • Liaising with the Branch Training Organiser to ensure a volunteer is supported once they are formally recruited.
  • Liaising with the Branch Publicity Officer to promote volunteering opportunities in appropriate places
  • Creating and maintaining contact with a network of local organisations as suitable sources for recruitment purposes such as Reach, the local Volunteer Centres, town and parish magazines
  • Encouraging and co-ordinating ideas, and activities for recruitment, retention and succession planning are discussed and implemented across Branch and Division level where appropriate.
  • Maintaining relationships with the regional Volunteer Support Manager and membership staff at Central Office.
  • Ensuring that all data processed or held as part of the role is done so strictly in accordance with SSAFA’s data management policies and procedures.
  • Complying with and promoting SSAFA values and standards, including the code of confidentiality.
