The University of Surrey was granted its Royal Charter in 1966 and was established on its present site in Guildford soon afterwards. During the last 30 years or so, the University has won a reputation for teaching and research excellence in science, engineering, the social sciences and the humanities and has established a highly successful wholly University-owned and managed international Research Park. The University has developed a close awareness of the needs of industry, commerce and the professions which has helped to form the distinctive character and structure of its taught and research programmes
There are at present some 10000 undergraduate students and 4000 postgraduates registered at the University. The University also offers a wide range of Continuing Professional Development courses not leading to awards of the University.
