General Dame Sharon Nesmith named president of Servicewomen’s Charity

General Dame Sharon Nesmith DCB ADC(Gen) has been appointed president of the WRAC Association, also known as the Servicewomen’s Charity.

The Women’s Royal Army Corps Association announced that Dame Sharon, Vice Chief of the Defence Staff, had accepted the role following an invitation from the charity.

She succeeds Katharine, Duchess of Kent, who held the position from 1970 until her death in September last year.

Dame Sharon was guest of honour at the Association’s annual general meeting in March, where she delivered a speech and met serving and veteran members.

The charity announced her appointment at its June afternoon tea gathering in Edinburgh.

The WRAC Association said members were delighted to welcome Dame Sharon as president.

Dame Sharon has also agreed to write a regular piece for members in the Association’s magazine, The Lioness, which is published twice a year.

The charity supports serving and veteran women from across the Armed Forces, including regulars and reservists from the Royal Navy, British Army and RAF.

The Association said: “A huge thank you to everyone involved and a very big, warm, Lioness welcome to General Dame Sharon from us all!”
