Location: Basildon
Salary: Grade 4 – Starting at £18,996 per annum and rising to £20,931

Chelmsford City Council is the lead authority for the South Essex Parking Partnership (SEPP) bringing together the parking operations for Basildon, Brentwood, Castlepoint, Chelmsford, Maldon and Rochford.

The main aim of the South Essex Parking Partnership, working for Chelmsford City Council, is to keep traffic moving and to keep roads congestion free. We want all areas in the South Essex Parking Partnership to be safe and accessible and parking enforcement action is focussed on dangerous, careless and negligent parking.

This role will require you to assist with the safe and free flow of traffic by patrolling controlled parking areas and issuing Penalty Charge Notices to motorists parked in contravention of parking regulations. The role is challenging and will involve enforcement patrols throughout your area and walking for approximately 10 miles per day in all weathers.

Having a full understanding of the legislation of the Traffic Management Act 2004 is not as important as having the right attitude, as full training will be provided to enable you to gain a City & Guilds Level 2 parking enforcement qualification.

The ideal candidate will be able to work on their own initiative and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with the public. Tact and diplomacy are essential skills for a CEO as you will encounter numerous members of the public daily and will be expected to treat everyone fairly, in a polite manner, under sometimes difficult circumstances.

You will be mainly based and work in Basildon and may on occasions be required to carry out duties at various locations within the South Essex Parking Partnership area. You must also hold a full manual driving licence.

The successful applicant will be required to work 37 hours per week on a shift rota, based on a five-day working week (Monday to Saturday) between 08.00 and 20.00 hour and a full uniform will be provided.

Applications from individuals wishing to work part time are also encouraged to apply.

Closing date: 3 April 2018.

Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment. This includes obtaining references and ensuring compliance with the Disclosure and Barring Service process.
