Coastal Operations Divisional Commander (Part-time – Division 1), Aberdeen
Salary: £46,696 per annum – £53,700 per annum (pro rata for part-time role)

HM Coastguard is the operational arm of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) and has responsibility for 6 Coastguard functions. This unusual and dynamic role sits within the Coastal Operations arm which handles resources and service provision on the coast.

We would love someone credible and knowledgeable to join our team and have the strategic responsibility and accountability for the delivery of an effective and efficient Coastal Operations organisation. As someone who excels at people and operational management, you will deliver success at MCA through the sound management, direction and motivational leadership of 3 Area Commanders and closely govern the processes which underpin successful delivery.

In addition to Strategic Divisional responsibilities, you will be a standing member of the Senior Officers Group and will be responsible for contributing and inputting to the strategic direction of the service.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of the role, your responsibilities will include:

  • ensuring sound leadership, management supervision and governance throughout the Division, identifying and monitoring strategic risks
  • providing strategic overview of the status of coastal operations and the response capability
  • contributing to the design and strategic implementation of Coastal Operational policy and processes
  • setting strategic direction and priorities and ensuring that policy development is informed by, and congruent with national and international developments
  • overseeing Divisional operating budgets and resources
  • maintaining strategic oversight of the estates portfolio within their operational Coastguard Division
  • acting as spokesperson on behalf of MCA for major incidents or events, or those of national significance and ensuring MCA is at a strategic level, fully engaged with its emergency response partners

You will work within the national command staffing system and participation in a 24/7 on-call roster, undertaking the role of National Coastal Commander.
