The team behind youth support at RAF Wittering has been recognised with an Air Officer Commanding Team Commendation…
The Community Support Team, which includes Sharon Pollard, Carol Atkinson and Kimberley Evans, from the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Airplay project and Iwalda Howard, from Action for Children Spring nursery, funded by the Fund, received the commendation from Air Officer Commanding 38 Group Air Vice-Marshal Sue Gray.
Part of the team’s role involves running the RAF Wittering Airplay and Ben Clubs, funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund. Airplay and Ben Clubs form part of the Fund’s flagship youth support scheme offering a place for youngsters to gather with their peers away from the challenges of life as part of a military family.
Peter Ashcroft, RAF Benevolent Fund Welfare Projects Manager, said: “This award is richly deserved and recognition of the incredible talent and hard work displayed by the entire team. The RAF Benevolent Fund is proud to support the whole RAF Family with projects like this, aimed at the younger members of that family. But we could not do that without the dedication of teams like this.”
The team were individually commended for the outstanding service they offer the young people at RAF Wittering, including their work supporting the confidence and resilience of teenagers, providing a huge range of evening, summer and residential activities and supporting the youth forum and its young members. All of this was done with excellent team spirit and great motivation.
Community Development Officer Mark Davis and Hive Information Officer Sophie West were also recognised.
