Big Salute Mile-a-thon Launches

BFBS Radio is thrilled to announce the launch of The Big Salute Mile-a-thon, a unique virtual challenge that spans 7,635 miles, taking participants on a symbolic journey from BFBS Brunei to BFBS Canada.

This exciting event, spanning from our easternmost radio station to the furthest west, is dedicated to raising crucial funds for the BFBS Big Salute. These efforts directly support military charities that provide vital services and meaningful impact to the armed forces community.

The Mile-a-thon will take place from Thursday, 26th September to Thursday 3rd October, and BFBS Radio invites everyone – from active service personnel to veterans, students, and BFBS Radio listeners – to take part.

Participants can run, row, walk, cycle, swim, or use any creative way to log their miles and help BFBS Radio reach the goal of 7,635 miles. Daily mileage can also be tracked online throughout the week.

A BFBS Radio Big Salute Day, will be held on 3rd October, when BFBS will tally up the miles completed and celebrate both the achievements and the incredible fundraising efforts on air. Listeners will also hear from the military charities that have benefited from funds raised by The BFBS Big Salute.

Most recently, The BFBS Big Salute allocated funds to six deserving charities, helping initiatives such as FAB Families Activity Breaks – to help provide FAB camps for bereaved military families, Forces Children Scotland, which was granted funds to go towards interactive school welcome packs, and Fares4Free’s fuel expense support for volunteer drivers.

Every contribution matters – whether it’s a penny or a pound, all donations will make a lasting impact on charities dedicated to providing vital care and support to the military community. These charities work tirelessly to ensure those in need receive the help and support they deserve.

Supporters can also donate directly through the BFBS JustGiving page or download a sponsorship form found on the website bfbs.com/mile
