Tim Humphries has recorded an exclusive programme with actor and musician Billy Boyd, to be broadcast on BFBS Radio at 1pm (UK) and on BFBS Radio 2 at 6pm (UK) on Saturday 25th July
As the lead singer and guitarist of Beecake, Billy chats about the band’s new album, The World of Things, his love of lyrics, music and wordplay, and his role as hobbit Pippin Took in The Lord of The Rings.
“As a former drama student Ireally enjoyedchatting to an actor who’s starredin one of the biggest movie trilogies ever,” said Tim. “It was a good laugh hearing Billy’s backstage stories of donning the hobbitlook – complete with the hairy feet – andfinding outwhich songshavedefined big moments in his life. It was so great to be in the BFBS studio as Beecakeplayed threechilled tracks for us.”
During the hour-long special, listeners get a taster of Beecake’s new album as the band plays an acoustic set, including The Last Goodbye, which originally featured in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
From his childhood in Glasgow, to drama school, then landing a part in a blockbuster movie, Billy describes his journey from musician to actor, to Beecake’s third album.
Billy Boyd’s story is also punctuated with tracks that reflect his past, as he chooses favourites by The Beatles, Adam and The Ants, Talking Heads, Prince, and Nina Simone.
