Neil Houlihan, Managing Director at Project RECCE, said:“We’re hoping the course will be a great success providing a pathway for the veteran community into the construction industry. I’ve been in the industry for over twenty years and believe there is something for everyone in construction.
“As the industry grows, we experiencing a skills shortage that’s definitely not going to be good for business or the economy. We want to show these veterans that construction is open for business, has something for everyone and there is opportunity to provide secure and financially rewarding career.”
With the support of the Royal Foundation and The Armed Forces Covenant, Project RECCE has created a proven Pathway into Construction for former military personnel. With its unique course content, developed by veterans, clinical professionals and construction industry leaders, Project RECCE is delivered over a 4 week period.
It commences with bespoke ‘Resilience to Civilian Life’ and ‘Take Control’ workshops, led by Clinical Director, Susan McCormack, in association with MODE Rehabilitation, to ensure the successful transition and resettlement of veterans into sustained employment.
The course also focuses on ensuring the veterans are ‘site ready’ by obtaining the required Health and Safety qualifications, enabling them to rediscover and hone their core competencies and transferable skills, via our employability workshops, and by providing suitable work experience placements.
The course culminates with a celebration and networking event, which provides an opportunity for the cohort to meet with our construction industry partners, where they will be provided with employment opportunities.
Laurence Moore, Veteran Director at Project RECCE, said: “Having joined the construction industry after a career in the Army, I can see how well suited it is for service leavers unsure of their next career move. From planning to execution, highly dynamic and complex working environments and the use of expensive bits of kit, any veteran can easily adapt to and excel within construction”.
To date 85% of the cohort are now in sustained employment within the construction industry and continue to obtain further qualifications.
