Get your walking boots ready for two major Walking With The Wounded events this year…
The Fifth Cumbrian Challenge
12-13th May. Grasmere Sports Ground, Stock Lane, Grasmere, Cumbria LA22 9SL
Sign up for this annual May weekend in the beautiful Cumbrian Fells and help us beat last year’s record number of 160 teams of four who tackled the three challenging routes, raising well over £200,000. Each team who walked supported another wounded veteran back into employment.
This special event offers walkers a chance to engage with the ex-servicemen and women Walking With The Wounded is supporting, helping them re-establish themselves, gain a job and find their independence. Each team is challenged to work together to raise £1,000 and to try for £2,000, which would directly support a veteran back into work. Limited availability at event HQ – £25 per person to camp Fri & Sat night inclusive.
Option to book when registering team. Sold out early last year so please book early to avoid why not try one of our taster walks in the Lake District, the Chilterns or the South Downs.
The Balmoral Challenge
Have a Royal Adventure on Armed Forces Day 24th June 2017 (Friday 23rd June arrival for the registration from 5pm, inc. dinner, briefing and talk)
Her Majesty The Queen has given permission for a unique new walking challenge at Balmoral Castle to mark Armed Forces Day on Armed Forces Day 2017. The brand new Balmoral Challenge will support 100 vulnerable veterans. Walking With The Wounded is inviting up to 100 teams of four to compete over one of three mountainous routes designed to challenge participants on HM The Queen’s beautiful historic estate in the Cairngorm National Park.
The challenge celebrates the history of the estate with the three routes making the most of the historical landmarks. It will include a ‘big’ route of 33km which climbs over three Munros, a ‘thinking’ route calling on teams to think strategically and pick up as many points as they can within a set time limit and a ‘family’ route for over 12s in the forests above the castle.
Balmoral Estate Factor, Richard Gledson, said: “We are delighted to be working with Walking With The Wounded. We look forward to welcoming all the participants to Balmoral and to getting our very own Team Balmoral into training!”
