The Forces Employment Charity is holding its Pathways into Tech event (PIT24) on Wednesday, September 11th, at the prestigious Google Academy, London. The event has been created specifically for the Armed Forces community, offering veterans, Service leavers, reservists, and military families a chance to discover tech career paths.

The tech industry can be daunting, and many regard themselves as lacking the skills required for such a role. Yet, those from the military community have extensive soft skills that make them highly desirable to tech employers.

Those attending the event will discover career paths into cybersecurity, data science, IT infrastructure, and more. Workshops and seminars will demonstrate the skills needed in this competitive industry, including:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • Cybersecurity skills
  • Data Analytics skills
  • Cloud Computing skills
  • Programming Languages

Former military personnel will share their successful transitions into tech roles throughout the event. Speakers from 12 top firms, including Google, Lloyds, Roke and Xero, will also share their expertise and advice on navigating the tech landscape. They’ll provide sector insights and discuss open roles and recruitment processes – they’re actively recruiting veterans and their family members.

Army veteran Seru Nainoca attended a Forces Employment Charity event where she was encouraged to sign up to TechVets, a Forces Employment Charity programme. She says:

“That was a transformative experience for me because it served as a gateway to discovering Techvets. I signed up for an onboarding session, which acted as a stepping stone to understanding what TechVets was all about and the support that was offered. It not only clarified some of the things I was unsure about, regarding a career in tech, but it equipped me with the necessary knowledge and the tools to be able to make that successful transition into the tech field.”

Thanks to the support she received, Seru went on to secure a tech role within Defence Digital.
