A former Royal Marine Commando is currently climbing what is thought to be the highest mountain known in the Solar System in order to raise funds for the COVID19 Urgent Appeal Fund.
Matthew Disney is climbing the height of Rheasilvia which is the most prominent surface feature on the asteroid Vesta and it is three times the size of Mount Everest – the highest point on Earth.
Matthew plans on climbing the height of Rheasiliva over a 1-metre double sided 5 step high mound in his front garden wearing and climbing in mountain climbing gear. The challenge will take 48 hours in total to complete and Matthew began the challenge on Easter Sunday.
Matthew said: “This challenge I will undertake will hopefully raise money for PPE & other required equipment for NHS workers through the Covid-19 Urgent Appeal that I have chosen due to the times we all find ourselves in right now globally. While this is the primary focus of my challenge, it should be mentioned that there are many other front line workers out there doing an outstanding job; supermarket staff, delivery workers, MoD, Police, Firefighters to name a few.”
The original target of £2,000 was smashed days back with the total figure now past £5,000.
